Dear Parents and Guardians:
It is with mixed emotions that I announce the resignation of Dr. Pamela Banks from the Merrick Board of Education. Dr. Banks submitted her resignation to the Board at the Oct. 7 meeting.
After more than 40 years as a resident of the Merrick School District community, Dr. Banks will be relocating to another town. As a result, she may no longer serve on the Board of Education. Dr. Banks will continue to serve our children by maintaining her practice as a pediatrician in Merrick.
Dr. Banks raised her children here in Merrick and they attended our schools. She has been an active member of our community for many years, including the last seven as a member of the Board, having served as president and vice president during that time. On behalf of the Board and the entire administration, I thank Dr. Banks for her thoughtful volunteerism and dedication to the children of Merrick. She will be greatly missed.
The Board is discussing the next steps regarding the vacancy created by Dr. Bank’s resignation. No decision has been made at this time, but we will keep you informed on the matter.
Sincerely,
Dominick Palma, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
