Dear Merrick Families and Staff:
An individual has self-reported to the district that they have tested positive for COVID-19. This individual is a staff member at the Lakeside School. While we have not had confirmation by any official agency, we wanted to share this information because it was self-reported. Federal privacy laws prevent the disclosure of individual identities of those with a diagnosis.
According to the Nassau County Department of Health, symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. Please be sure to check the CDC and the New York State Health Department websites for all current information pertaining to COVID-19.
Anyone who is experiencing any symptoms such as cough, difficulty breathing and fever are advised by health authorities to contact a physician or the New York State Department of Health (888-364-3065).
The health authorities have also informed us that many more cases will emerge which can be mildly symptomatic. It seems clear that COVID-19 is widely dispersed in the region at this stage. The Nassau County Department of Health will continue to investigate confirmed COVID-19 cases and will take action if needed.
It is imperative that anyone experiencing symptoms stay at home and call their health care provider.
Sincerely,
Dominick Palma
Superintendent of Schools
