Kudos to the Birch School PTA SADD Committee, which sponsored a Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Interfaith Nutrition Network in Hempstead. The mission of The INN is to provide a sustainable soup kitchen, shelter and long-term housing. Members from the entire Birch School community supported this worthy cause with nonperishable, nonexpired food items. In addition to this food drive, Birch students donated their leftover, unopened candy from Halloween.

More than 35 boxes of food were collected and donated to The INN. In addition, several classes prepared side dishes and created gift baskets that included gift cards to local food markets. Fifth graders also created and decorated gift bags with snacks to present to INN families. Students from fourth and fifth grade decorated bags to carry the donations. Birch social work Robyn Fruchter was the adviser for the effort. Well done, Birch School!
